In what could be seen as a continuation of his long obsession with Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu is reportedly planning to have twin cities for AP as well similar to Hyderabad and Secunderabad in Telangana.

Sources say that after the state's request, the Singapore team has reportedly suggested to Naidu government to develop both the new capital Amaravati and also Vijayawada as twin cities which could be more or less AP's answer to Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Naidu believes there will lop-sided development

The twin cities which are now in the making are actually separated by a distance of close to 12 kms. The Tank Bund and Hussainsagar Lake separate Hyderabad and Secunderabad, in Telangana. In addition to emulating Telangana, Naidu believes there will lop-sided development and massive inward migration towards Amaravati from Vijayawada.

Hence AP government believes that while Amaravati is taking shape, it is very important beef up the inadequate roads and other infrastructure in Vijayawada while both cities will be linked by new Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) network envisaged between the capital city and Vijayawada.
