Demanding or offering dowry is crime according to Indian constitution and there are tougher laws to deal the rampant assaults on women by their husband and in laws. However even now officials failed to curb dowry and in many men consider it as a prestige to take dowry inspite of financially super strong and enjoying celebrity status and are in influential positions in the society. Even girls parents too consider it as prestige to give dowry for the safety of their daughter.
As it is a crime taking or giving dowry, Hyderabadis found clever way to get dowry. In a shocker it was found that dowry deaths are high in Telangana. National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) found out that list of suicides due to dowry is high in Telangana. Report says it is only partial picture of the serious state of affairs.

Sources say Hyderabadis are playing clever game of three keys and they are key to a house, key to a car and key to a locker. Some even investigate on to be bride's bank balance, properties etc so that they can lay seize on them during marriage.
Many say this is the reason why normal wedding touches lakhs and grand wedding will be as high as Rs 3-5 crs. Unless until there is change in the society, dowry cannot be done away with even if more tougher laws come.
