Islamic State jihadists in Syria have reportedly caused severe damaged to the Bel temple, which is considered one of the most marvellous and greatest sites of the ancient world, in one of massive explosions on Sunday, according to international media.

This 2,000-year-old temple was one part of the ancient remains of the caravan city of Palmyra situated in central Syria, which was seized by ISIS terrorist in May.  This news regarding the latest destruction at Palmyra comes day within ISIS releasing propaganda images that showed militants blowing up the 2,000-year-old Baalshamin dedicated to the Phoenician god of storms and fertilizing rains.

Baalshamin temple as a war crime

This was another Palmyra temple. The UN cultural agency Unesco, which had designated Palmyra as a renowned world heritage site, has termed the destruction of the Baalshamin temple as a war crime. Recently ISIS militants had also beheaded Khaled al-Asaad, a 81-year-old scholar  on antiquities who had devoted his whole life in understanding Palmyra.

The Islamic State group, had earlier imposed a violent interpretation of the Islamic law across its so called  self-declared "caliphate" which straddles Syria and Iraq, and denounced ancient saying they promoted idolatry.
