Farm loan waiver was one of the important promises which was made by AP CM Chandrababu Naidu as part of TDP manifesto before 2014 elections. It is not an exaggeration to say that this tilted the scales in favour of TDP-BJP alliance which eventually led to their victory last year.

Chandrababu had to heavily trim this scheme

But with RBI unrelenting and Centre not co-operating, Chandrababu had to heavily trim this scheme with lots of terms and conditions. The final waiver being implemented now is a heavily watered down proposal compared to what was proposed before elections by Babu.

Naturally, this gave strength to Jagan and his party who leave no chance to corner Babu and TDP on every venue. But now in a remarkable twist, Telangana officials have reportedly contacted their AP counterparts in finance and agriculture ministries.

TS has been implanting waiver also, but in installments like AP, which again has brought no mileage and farmers are committing suicides in hundreds each month due to less impact of loan waiver. Even Maharashtra wants to emulate AP model soon for drought hit farmers. This move by TS to contact AP to know its limited but effective model seems to have stumped Jagan Reddy.
