'Polygamy' involves marriage with more than one spouse. When a man is married to more than one wife at a time, it is called polygamy. When a woman is married to more than one husband at a time, it is called polyandry. Recently a case took everyone by storm and it was said that Islam allows Polygamy. Is that true ?
For ages certain teachings of Quran were clearly misinterpreted. What they actually do is hurt and cause more pain. We are just speaking with respect to 'Polygamy'. Most of the Muslim men were ignorant and they practice Polygamy. Of course, Quran permits them but doesn't command them.
There is a specific reason why Allah granted permission to Prophet, allowing him to marry multiple women under his sentinel. Allah also asked him if he is unable to protect, care and love all the wives equally, he should never have more than one wife. Also this was said to help the helpless.
A woman might have lost her husband in a battle or by any natural mishap. To save her and protect her, this was said. Also a Muslim man is allowed to marry in case the first wife isn't able to get pregnant.
