Oil is obtained from plants & its flame contains high carbon thus its flame emits carbon-di-oxide which is harmful, while a ghee flame has negligible amount of carbon content & is safe especially inside the temple or house whereas lighting an oil lamp under a peepal tree or a banyan tree is advised in some Hindu rituals.
