Athletes from across the world are participating in Rio Olympics and are competing against each other for the top honours and also to entertain sports lovers. While Olympics promote fair play, in a shocker racism is comingout surprising organisers.
Ethiopian Olympic swimmer Nobel Kiros Habte who participated in 100 metre free style heat finished the heat last half a leap behind the athletes. The crowd however encouraged him and cheered him till he finished the heat.
However what followed is some made fun of the Ethiopian athlete's body and started comparing it with his competitors.They insulted him and some of the commentators and media also branded him as 'whale','fat' “tubby”, “chubby” and “overweight”.
The Daily Mail invited readers to 'meet Robel the whale' while other branded himna s 'dod bod'. Earlier Mexican gymnast Alexa Moreno was subject to scrutiny over her appearance.
In both Moreno and Habate case many came in support of athletes questioning how can commentators criticise them from behind a computer screen.
Habate speaking to scribes sharing his feelings said “It has been difficult,” and added "“Too difficult, I don’t know how I feel, but many things. Some of the things people have said or written are not nice."
