In a surprise move, Pune Supergaints sacked its captain Dhoni from the upcoming IPL edition. The franchisee has appointed Australian bats man Steve Smith as its new skipper. The franchisee also confirmed that the same has been informed to the team India former captain.
The management also said that Dhoni has agreed to the decision made and that he was ready to help Steve Smith on field. While Dhoni is expected to keep his place in the side, the wicketkeeper-batsman is likely to be promoted up the order.
The Franchisee has Citedthe reason that Dhoni was out of form in his recent innings and Under Dhoni, the team managed to win only five of their 14 matches in the IPL 9. The 35-year-old is one of the three captains to have won the cash-rich T20 league twice. He led Chennai Super Kings for nine editions starting from the league's inaugural season in 2008.
Dhoni has recently stepped down as Indian Captain from all three formats of the game and Kohli became his successor.
