Telangana State’s Aditi Are (U-14, Girls) and Abhaya Vemuri (U-12, Girls) are crowned winners at the IIFL Wealth Tennis Championship Series in Hyderabad 

Karnataka’s Aayush P Bhat wins the U-14 Doubles and Singles Boys Title at the Tournament

November 24, 2017, Hyderabad: Post a gruelling seven days at the NVK Tennis Academy in Kondapur, at the IIFL Wealth Tennis Championship Series, All India Ranking Championship Series 7, in Hyderabad. Telengana’s Aditi Are and Abhaya Vemuri emerged victorious in the U-14 and U-12  Girls Categories respectively. 


In the U-14 Girls Category, Telengana's Adithi Are, beat Ridhi Kakarlamudi, 6-2, 6-1 in the finals to win the U-14 Title. Adithi who was top seeded in the main draw showed strong promise through the tournament, not having dropped a single set during her matches in the last 7 Days. 


Abhaya who entered top of the the draw in the U-12 category, sailed through the tournament. In the semi-finals, she beat fellow Telangana State representative,  Apurva Vemuri 6-4, 6-3 before setting her final clash with second seeded Malishka Kuramu, also from the state. Malishka who reached the finals after an exhausting semi-finals encounter against Nirali Bahadur, the previous day that ended 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, lost in straight sets to Abhaya 4-6, 4-6. This is Abhaya’s first Championship Series title.


In the boys encounter, top seeded, Karnataka's Ayush P Bhat claimed both the U-14 Singles and Doubles titles for the tournament. Defeating doubles teammate, and second seeded, Arjun Premkumar 5 6-3, 6-2, for the singles crown, both the boys joined forces to claim the doubles title in the U-14 Category in three sets, including a trying tie breaker, at 6-7(10), 6-0, 6-1.


In the U-12 Category, fourth seeded, Tamil Nadu’s Dhananjay Athreya claimed the singles titles, defeating  top seeded Kevin Karthik 6-2, 6-1 in the semi-finals before meeting and defeating third seeded Caheer Warik in a closely fought finals clash 7-6 (3), 7-5.

On the sidelines of the prize distribution ceremony, Mr. S P Mishra, Chief Guest to the  final day shared, “I am so glad to see a tournament organized in such a professional manner by the teams at MBTA and IIFL Wealth Management. Tournaments for children specifically in this category are crucial in building their confidence and their match abilities. These tournaments are a great opportunity for children to learn and grow with the sport itself. To provide children with this kind of match exposure is a significant contribution to the sport in India.”

Concluding the afternoon functions, Hari Vijay, Sr. Vice President, IIFL Wealth Management, Hyderabad Region shared, “IIFL Wealth Management is all about building the ecosystem of the sport in the country, through children, not only teaching them how to deal with the pressures of participation but also encouraging them to work towards wanting to win. There were 270 participants, where over 300 games were played, and that in itself speaks about the need of having support for Championship Series like these. IIFL is happy to provide  such a platform to such ambitious  talent in the country.” 


Winners of in all the categories, U-14, U-12 Boys and Girls will now have an opportunity to earn a wild card for the IIFL Wealth Management Asian Tour Finals scheduled for January 2018.
