Time for CSK fans to rejoice as the IPL Governing Council has cleared the path for the return of MS Dhoni back into CSK for IPL 2018. The IPL teams are allowed to retain a maximum of 5 of their existing players. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals who were suspended for 2 years are asked to retain players from their squads in 2015.
A maximum of three capped Indian players can be retained, and only two overseas players and two uncapped Indian players can be retained. A franchise can spend a maximum of 33 Crores on retention and that leaves 47 Crores to spend at the auction.
CSK is likely to retain Dhoni and Raina and they can bring them back into the action. Ajinkya Rahane, Steven Smith, Ankit Sharma, Rajat Bhatia, James Faulkner and Dhawal Kulkarni will be with Rajasthan Royals.
