Indians especially movie lovers always love torrents to download their favourite movies and watch them leisurely. However this may soon end as Government of India is planning to ban torrents and if this happens then viewing torrent websites will land in jail.
It is known that sometime back Government decided to ban porn and now after the fumbling ban, now Government is planning to ban torrents. If this happens according to report, a person visiting torrent wesbite is riminal and will earn 3 lakh fine and also 3 years jail.
The proposed ban even extends to looking at "a torrent file, or downloading a file from a host that may have been banned in India, or even for viewing an image on a file host like Imagebam."
URL of the banned content will show a warning pop up on the screen which runs "This URL has been blocked under the instructions of the Competent Government Authority or in compliance with the orders of a Court of competent jurisdiction. Viewing, downloading, exhibiting or duplicating an illicit copy of the contents under this URL is punishable as an offence under the laws of India, including but not limited to under Sections 63, 63-A, 65 and 65-A of the Copyright Act, 1957 which prescribe imprisonment for 3 years and also fine of upto Rs 3,00,000/-.
Any person aggrieved by any such blocking of this URL may contact at urlblock@tatacommunications.com who will, within 48 hours, provide you the details of relevant proceedings under which you can approach the relevant High Court or Authority for redressal of your grievance"
Already popular websites like Torrenlinks.net, btstorrent.cc, torrentdownloads.me, limetorrents.cc are coming with this warning. When one tries to open these links another warning comes stating “This URL has been blocked under Instructions of the Competent Government Authority or In compliance to the orders of Hon’ble Court” making people wonder which High Court issued the orders.
But what the government is not understanding is there are many way to watch the illegal websites with the help of DNS servers and IP address masking via VPN and already many are coming with tutorials on how to open torrent sites without getting caught.
