M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story is an Indian biographical film directed by Neeraj Pandey, based on the life of Indian cricketer and the current ODI and T20I captain of the Indian national cricket team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The movie is highly anticipated as MS Dhoni is known to everyone.  Sushant Singh Rajput has essayed role fo MS Dhoni and the movie also features Disha Patani, Kiara Advani and Anupam Kher in supporting roles. The movie gets dubbed in Tamil, Telugu and Marathi languages too. As we knew, the movie is about the untold story of Dhoni and the hardships he went through during the initial stages of his career. How a small town boy becomes India's top Cricketing Legend is narrated in the lengthy biopic. Neeraj Pandey who earlier gave us some daunting thriller such as 'A Wednesday' and 'Special 26' has now once again done a wonderful job of bringing Indian middle class boy story. Dhoni's family has a conservative father who prefers Dhoni to get a stable job rather than pursuing interest in sports. As always we have some dramatic elements where we see an optimistic coach and so on.

What is so hard in making a biopic is, you need the right casting and right actors to bring the real life into reel life. Sushant Singh Rajput has done the inevitable task and he has lived in shoes of MS Dhoni. Be it the Helicopter shot or doing romance with Kiara Advani, he has nailed it to perfection. Disha Patani appears as Dhoni's ex-girl friend and her sole duty is to provide glamour. Bhumika Chawla makes her entry after a long time as Jayanti Gupta, Dhoni's sister. She is still sweet and lovely. Anupam Kher as Pan Singh has done the perfect role of a conservative father. Rajesh Sharma as Dhoni's coach is totally optimistic. Wow ! It's too good to get a coach like it. The scenes in which Dhoni and his friends try to race against time and reach the airport for a sports selection round makes us cheer. The romance with Kiara and Disha is totally unnecessary and that pulls the movie down. Why on earth there is a song about Rajput where Dhoni goes on a bike with glasses and romancing his young wife ?

Technical wise the movie is too weak a lengthy screenplay totally spoils the party. A bold director such as Neeraj Pandey choosing tp focus on MS Dhoni's personal life rather than this professional ? That's something too bad. Very few scenes are touching where Dhoni takes unconventional decisions as a captain such as removing a couple of established players from the team, the film doesn’t offer any insight into the interesting episodes on the professional front. Music by Amaal Mallik and Rochak Kohli is also below average. Editing by Shree Narayan Singh is totally pathetic. The 190 minutes running time tests our patience and it is totally sluggish. Santosh Thundiyil's cinematography captures the cricketing ground with vibrant colours. Production values are too high for the movie.

MS Dhoni Biopic which is highly anticipated has definitely failed in satisfying expectations of fans. The lengthy screenplay tests patience of fans.  Even though the movie could have dealed with lots of issues in professional life. But his personal life was prioritized. Definitely a big failure for Neeraj Pandey as a director
