Reportedly the new Mahindra Thar will follow a similar design silhouette as the outgoing model but looks like it has grown in dimensions. It is expected to be longer and wider than the Thar 700, which debuted recently, and will likely sit on a longer wheelbase. It is also likely to feature updated underpinnings. It will continue with the body on frame construction, which is not only abuse-friendly but also helps during off-roading.
The changes in the new Thar will be more than superficial. In fact, it will demand a hefty premium over the outgoing model. As a reference, the current version starts at Rs 9.52 lakhs and goes up to Rs 9.99 lakhs (ex-showroom delhi), for the Thar 700.
Reports also suggest that Mahindra will equip the 2020 Thar with an all-new 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel motor. It will be BS-VI compliant, at launch, and come mated to a low-range gearbox and a four wheel drive transfer case.
