Sources from New Delhi have stated that Indian automobile industry has exported 624,939 units of passenger vehicles (PVs) during April 2016 January 2017 as against 533,034 units in same period last fiscal, as per Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) report. PV exports had increased 17.24 percent during the period. Ford India has registered year on year export growth of over 129.49 % in the ongoing financial year and is now the second largest passenger vehicle exporter from India after Hyundai Motor India.

Meanwhile Hyundai Motor India continued to be the country’s largest passenger vehicles exporter. The Indian arm of the Korean car maker exported a total of 145,856 units in the first 9 months of the ongoing financial year. Hyundai’s overall exports are up by 2.03% when compared the same 9 months of the last financial year.

Of the total exports by Hyundai Motor India, the major chunk of vehicles exported includes 41,472 units of the SUV Hyundai Creta, 42,332 units of the Hyundai Grand i10 hatch, and 24,405 units of the sub-4 meter Hyundai Xcent compact sedan. The Ford Motor India has surpassed Maruti Suzuki’s exports to take the second spot as far as overall exports are concerned. Ford exported a total of 126,649 units between April 2016-January 2017. In the last financial year Ford exported 85,379 units from India registering a growth of over 48%.
