The results of Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by IIM Ahmedabad in November 2015 are expected to be released in the second week of January 2016. A candidate’s CAT 2015 score card will be made available at the official website and individual information will not be sent.

As compared to the last five years, this year more than two lakhs candidates have appeared for this examination. Therefore, the cut-offs are likely to be affected this year.  All candidates should also make a note that from this year onward, six new IIMs have been added to the list of 13 existing ones, thereby, increasing the total number of seats at IIMs.

Selection Criteria for IIM Admission through CAT

CAT 2015 Result and cut off

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) conducts Common Admission Test (CAT) every year. There are 19 IIMs operating in India, out of which 6 have become operational in 2015 only. The result of CAT will be declared in the second week of January 2016.

CAT score, overall percentile score, along with the sectional cut-offs, play a major role, for candidates to get shortlisted for the further round of selection and get a call from various IIMs and other non-IIM management institutes

Thereafter, each IIM will release CAT Cutoff. Cutoff refers to the minimum score or percentile which a candidate must secure to get shortlisted by the participating institute for the next rounds of the selection process. While the top B-schools will have a higher range of CAT 2015 cutoffs, 90+ percentile, the mid-rung B-schools’ cutoffs range from 75 to 80 percentile and that of the lower rung B-schools is around 50 percentiles.

CAT 2015 Cut Off Marks Analysis:

Candidates who will secure CAT scores more than or equal to as stated in the CAT Cutoff 2015 will only be considered for IIM admissions. All IIMs will be releasing their individual CAT Cutoff and they all follow their own selection process distinguished from each other. IIMs not only consider the CAT score but also take into consideration the academic record, work experience and participation of the candidates in extra-curricular activities. So only achieving high percentile in CAT 2015 will not guarantee admission into IIM.

The aspirants must know that they need a balanced high percentile because they would not only require overall high percentile but also, across all the sections. Sectional cut-off percentiles should be around 85+ for the newer IIMs and 90+ for the existing ones. This implies that a student who scores overall 96 percentile with 95 in Quant, 90 in DI & LR and 87 in Verbal might get a call from IIMs, perhaps the new IIMs, whereas someone with an overall score of 98 percentile getting 100 in Quant, but 80 in Verbal would miss out.

Here are some estimates of CAT percentile scores and cut-offs for the various IIMs:
