Sources from Chennai have stated that three students with a cut-off of 200 topped the merit list for admission to medical colleges this year and the lower number of centum this year in Physics in Class XII has resulted in fewer candidates with a cut-off of 200 marks and last year, 17 candidates had a cut-off of 200.


The officials at the Directorate of Medical Education has told that two of the toppers, though they studied in other States, were eligible for counseling since they were natives of Tamil Nadu and the merit list for admission to medical and dental colleges through single window system was released on Friday by the Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar.


It is also stated that counseling for special categories, including for persons with special abilities, ex-servicemen and sports quota, will be held on Monday and general counseling will be held from Tuesday till Saturday and the venue of counseling is the Omandurar Government Multi Super Specialty Hospital on Anna Salai.


And it was further added that of the 25,379 applications found eligible, 16,361 were girls and 9,017 were boys and there was also an application from a transgender and as many as 3,266 candidates from previous years had applied and a total of 9,401 candidates were first generation learners.
