VIJAYAWADA: The state government issued orders on Tuesday limiting the max amount of permissible liquor to three bottles of any size per person and six (6) bottles of beer (650ml each) at a time without a license. The earlier limit was six (6) bottles of liquor and 12(Twelve) bottles of beer.

The state government issued the orders on Tuesday to reduce the maximum allowable amount of liquor that can be procured by one person. The order will come into effect from Wednesday or next.

The maximum permissible limit is the same in the case of Indian Made Liquor (IML) and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). For toddy, the limit has been set at 2 liters. The government has also allowed the procurement of 3 liters of denatured or methylated spirit to be used for industrial purposes. Possession of rectified spirit is totally banned.

The move comes as part of the state government's attempt to implement a complete liquor ban in a phased manner. The state government has already reduced the number of liquor stores by (Twenty %) 20% and has cut down operating hours by an hour. All liquor shops will be operated by the government from first October 1.
