Wayanad is one of the important tourist destinations of Kerala and is in the western ghats, and is filled with beautiful hills and valleys. Wayanad, which means the land of paddy fields, is famous for tea and spice plantation as well as its dense forests. On an average, the temperature of Wayanad is at 20 degrees.


Some of the important tourist destinations of Wayanad are, Lakkidi, Thusharagiri waterfalls which gives a superb view of the hills, Banasura Dam, which is the biggest earthen dam, Kalpetta, which has the headquarters of Wayanad, and which also has the Ananthasamy Jain temple.


The other destinations to visit include Chembra peak, the Edakkal caves in Ambukutty mountain, and the Heritage Museum in Ambalavayal, which has artifacts related to tribals and their communities, and the Wayanad sanctuary, which has a large variety of species. Wayanad is also famous for its handicrafts made of coconut shells, canes, metals and ivory.
