'Pencil' is based on School life ! Oh no.. wait ! It's not the puppy love scenario. This time it's a suspense thriller. The plot is simple. An incident chances the complete scenario in school. During school life we all might have teased our friends, teachers, non-working staff. This entire movie is based on the same scenario. Lead pair Sri Divya and GV Prakash are from same class. And as per Tamil cinema rules, these two fall in Love against each other. And a murder takes place at school. To investigate the case, Oorvasi and some special team comes to the schoool. GV Prakash and Sri Divya are also important evidence in the case. And during the investigation, some unknown mysteries are revealed. So what are the truths ? Who is the murderer ? What happened to the investigation ? forms the rest of the story !
GV Prakash who was a Music composer, should have made his debut with this movie. But gladly he did it with 'Darling'. In this movie, GV Prakash has done a neat job. Especially the way he find clues and solve mystery is outstanding. His young face suits the school boy character. Sri Divya has done an unique role and she is the USP of this movie. Shariq Hassan is the debut actor and he has made an impressive debut. Urvashi is seen in a new dimension completely. Rest of the cast also have done justice to their roles.
GV Prakash has proved his mettle as composer. 'Kangalilae' song is the pick of the album. Shreya ghoshal's voice is so mesmerizing. 'Yaarau Polum Illa Neeyum' stands next to it. The visuals blend well with the tunes. Gopi Amarnath's cinematography is exemplary and he has done a decent job. He has shown the school in a 'Spooky' way. Anthony has done a great job with cuts and there is not even a single dull moment.
'Pencil' is completely the unconventional High School movie and it fits the bill perfectly. GV Prakash and Sri Divya have done justice to their roles. Visuals are attractive and there are no flaws. An engaging thriller which keeps you tight till the end.
