Akkineni Hero Sumanth, who has been on the lookout for success, was last seen making a decent comeback with the romantic entertainer Malli Raava, which though was a failure commercially, won critical acclaim. Now, he's back with his silver jubilee flick Subrahmanyapuram which is a spiritual thriller. Here's team AP Herald's exclusive first on net Subrahmanyapuram review.


The movie begins introducing atheist Karthik (Sumanth) who researches on ancient temples, and getting to know the renowned Subrahmanyauram temple, he enters the village. Much to the shock of him and the villagers, numerous suicides happen one after the other, and while people believe its due to some spiritual power, Karthik fails to believe it. Was Karthik able to find the reason behind the suicides and find the culprit or were the suicides due to some divine power, is what Subrahmanyapuram is all about. 


Sumanth is known for his underplayKarthikand here too he delivers a mature performance, subtly displaying his disbelief on myths and gods, and his horrors of witnessing paranormal and spiritual activities around him, and as usual excels with emotions. Eesha Rebba as the strong-willed girl plays a good enough role to display her acting skills, and she is perfectly cast. Veterans like Saikumar and Suresh are adequate and are cast in solid supporting roles.



Background score by Shekar Chandra is haunting and matches the dark theme of the movie, while of his songs, except Saho Shanmuka none appeal. Cinematography by RK Pratap captures the mystery of the village and the thrilling episodes very well, engaging the audience. Editing by Karthik Srinivas is tight, making Subrahmanyapuram an engaging flick.



Debutant director Santhosh  Jagarlapudi has made his debut with an interesting premise of a protagonist entering a village only to witness strange events happening, and the same attributed to spiritual forces, and the protagonist fighting forces to resolve the mystery. The first half moves on a slow note, establishing the characters, and towards the interval gains momentum, presenting the core concept of the movie, and the second half progresses in a good pace, with some interesting episodes one after the other, as finally the protagonist unravels the mystery. Though the film begins on a promising note, the pace is a concern, and cliched episodes, and unnecessary heroism at places, besides the revelation in the finale being predictable, impact Subrahmanyapuram. All said, despite an interesting premise and good visuals, Subrahmanyapuram ends as an average outing.
