Thousands of movies are released every year in different languages in india, every film has to be authorized by the concerned censor boards, but, few films were actually banned by censor board due to its explicit content and sexual genre. Some of them never released, while some were released after editing some portion of the film.


     Kama Sutra was Mira Nair's directorial venture, it was based on ancient Hindu literature. The film never released and was banned because of its sexual content. Fifty Shades of Grey was also banned straight away by censor board as it had extremely sensuous and explicit scenes.


       Bandit Queen was biography of Phoolan Devi, directed by Shekhar Kapoor it was banned because it had few nude scenes and sexually intimate scenes. fire a film based on homosexuality between two women, the film created a lot of controversies due to its intimacy between two leading ladies. 


      deepa Mehta’s controversial film Water was also banned because of the theme and story. It depicted life of widows and their sexual struggle. The film created huge outcry in the country.
