Bollywood's starlet deepika Padukone kick started the year with a beautiful performance in her film Chhapaak that was based on the real-life story of acid-attack survivor Laxmi Agaral. While the film didn’t generate the kind of box office response it was expected to, deepika appeared honest and powerful in her performance on screen. The Nykaa Femina beauty Awards 2020 honoured the same beauty in her performance at an event on tuesday evening.

The actor received the trophy for Being The Most Powerful Performer of The Year and later dedicated the award to Laxmi and all other acid-attack survivors who decided to never give up. In a lovely post made on instagram, deepika wrote how Chhapaak would always remain close to her heart. She said she never considered this Meghna Gulzar directorial a ‘film’ and always felt like she was the part of a ‘movement.’

Deepika mentioned Laxmi and others for showing ‘what beauty really means’. Her entire post read, “Chhapaak truly has been the most difficult film of my career. Having said that,Chhapaak for me is not just a film.It is a movement;that has challenged the definition and our understanding of ‘Beauty’. Famous American swiss Psychiatrist Elisabeth Ross said, the most beautiful people we have known are those who have known suffering, known struggle, known loss, known defeat…and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation,a sensitivity and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness and a deep loving concern.Beautiful people do not just happen.
