What Is Bad

  • Some cliches
Bottom Line: Overall, A 'Blockbuster' start to Bollywood with 'Wazir'

'Wazir' is one of the most expected thrillers in Bollywood. Amitabh Bachchan, Aditi Rao Hydari, Farhan Akhtar, John Abraham and Neil Nitin Mukesh are part of the lead casting. Bejoy Nambiar directs this project. So the movie is about an unusual bonding or friendship between two men who are separated by Age and Experience. But the common thing between both of them is both have lost their child. Danish (Farhan Akhtar) is an ATS Officer who lost his daughter during a mission. His wife severe all ties with him. Aditi Rao Hydari essays role of his wife. By 'Fate' he gets close to Panditji (Amitabh) who is a chess champion. Even he lost his daughter. What happens when both share the common feeling forms the rest of the story. There are lots of stories overlapping, but still each story is structured in each layer.

Star Performance

The main reason why you can enjoy this movie is due to the casting. Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan share a great chemistry and they just make most of the talking through their eyes itself. The movie proves that only story matters and nothing else. Neil Nitin Mukesh is cruel even though his part is limited. Aditi Rao Hydari doesn't have more scope. Sadly the intimate scene is also chopped. Neil Nitin reminds that he enters Game of Thrones by a weird joke. Manav Kaul's performance was 'OK'-ish. But when we walk out, we can see some shades of Aamir Khan's character fro 'Talaash' in Farhan's character. But still the racy screenplay never allows to think. Amitabh is as usual flawless. Big B deserves a bow ! Great going sir !

Techinical Team

The movie is technically solid. Vidhu Vinod Chopra's production values are so high. Even in the First look poster, you can see that the Chess game was shown. The whole movie is just like that, you can't predict the next thing. The idea of Wazir came to Vidhu Vinod Chopra after badminton player Syed Modi was murdered on 28 July 1988 in Lucknow. However, Chopra claims that this film is completely different from the incident. Thanks to screenplay from Abhijat Joshi and Vidhu Chopra. The racy screenplay is what pushes the movie forward. Music is brilliant. But you can't credit anyone as the movie has five various composers. Sanu Varghese cranks the camera behind the lens. The producer himself has taken care of cuts too. It was crisp. But we wonder, what is the necessity to cut the intimate scene between the lead characters ?

The movie has lots of twists and turns and the characters are sketched well. Their journey is a perfect walk till the end of road. The unpredictable writing is what we need to see more in Bollywood. The movie is definitely 'A not-to-be' missed one ! The narration was focused and that itself speaks everything.
