'Gethu' is shaped by 'Maan Karate' fame Thirukumaran and the movie is produced by Udhayanidhi himself under the banner Red Giant Movies. Harris Jayaraj scored Music. Sukumar took care of cinematography. Raja Mohan is the editor. Amy Jackson pairs with Udhayanidhi for the first time. Sathyaraj essays role of Udhay's father and Karunakaran was seen as constable. Vikranth is a sniper from Indian Navy MARCOS. He is yet another unconventional villain. After playing lots of 'Easy go' characters, Udhay has opted for an action avatar and he has tasted success to an extent. But the major question is, did he fill the shoes perfectly ?

Udhayanidhi Stalin has came a long way from doing comedy oriented roles. He has done a character named Sethu. But just changing contact lens and having a french beard is not going to change the talent at all. He is as usual stone faced. Even in romantic scenes he was seen with a rigid heart. Amy Jackson completely seens 'Alien'-atic. How on earth one can imagine herself as a desi girl ? Her role as Nandhini Ramanujam is good. But she never entered the shoes. It was like eating Pizza by mixing it with Sambar. Karunakaran as usual did justice to his part. Avinash, Anuradha are just show filler. The show stealer is Vikranth and Sathyaraj. Vikranth on the whole just has one dialogue. May be the director got inspired from 'Groot' character in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'. After Aravind Swami in 'Thanioruvan', we have yet another powerful villain. The sad thing is, he never got a powerful hero. Sathyaraj as a caring and lovable father as usual scores easily. It's a cake walk for him.

Harris Jayaraj is back after a long hiatus. But songs are not so catchy. Except for 'Thillu Mullu' and 'Thaen Kaatru', the songs are pretty average. We are not sure, what is wrong with Harris. 'Mutta Bajji' song is just a rehash of 'Venam machan' from OKOK. Dinesh Ponraj's editing is crisp. But the dragging sequences at times test our patience. There are no harsh cuts here and there. But at times we can see there are some blunt scenes. The slow-mo shots at action scenes are scene in lots of movies and they are nothing new. Sukumar's cinematography is the biggest plus. In fact that acts as backbone. It catches the enchanting scenario of Kodaikanal in a beautiful manner. The captivating scenary is even more beautiful through his lens. What a treat is has been. Production values are also good. But they could have focused a little more on the story line too.

Udhayanidhi Stalin is a good producer. He has distributed some quality movies in his career. But as an actor ? Just because of one success he can't judge himself as an actor. He has more responsibility in his next project which is an official remake of 'Jolly LLB'. He need to do more in those remake. He need to adapt a lot and change himself. Amy Jackson should realize that she is a British girl and should opt for characters which suit her. 'Madarasapattinam' was the only perfect character. Movie has shades of lots of movies. But we can't make sure that 'Gethu' is definitely a Pongal treat. It is not a 'Must watch' flick or a worst hit movie like 'Maan Karate'.
