The story is about Vidya Sinha ( Vidya Balan) and her daughter Mini who is paralyzed and their life is full of challenges and obstacles. She is accused of murdering and kidnapping of a minor, puts in a compelling performance. Her fear and her protectiveness towards her daughter is beautifully captured.
The Indian National Award winning starlet Vidya Balan has acted as a mother is accused for killing and her strength and vulnerability is shown amazingly in some scenes. Director Sujoy Ghosh has pulled off with gripping opening scenes in this mystery Kahaani 2. Arjun Rampal has enacted as a police officer and he finds the truth in the life of her past. He impresses as the cop hankering for a promotion and is believable as the husband.
Tapan Basu's cinematography work is appreciatable and he has done a tremendous job. Clinton Cerejo has given a melodious music and all the songs are lovely. The lyrics are penned with utmost care by Amitabh Battacharya. The editing part is also done nearly and few scenes are bit lengthy. A scene in which a dowdy Balan confronts the perpetrator and his allies who are complicit in the cover-up of an unspeakable crime is worth applauding.
This sequel which is written and directed by Sujoy Ghosh after a gap of four years and it definitely serves up intrigue, but fails to keep a tight grip on proceedings throughout its duration. So unlike the first part, that hit the ground running and set a benchmark in the genre, this one lacks the shark-bite. But you do invest in Vidya Sinha, a harrowed, working mum from Chandan Nagar in West Bengal and her handicapped teenage daughter, who like most middle-class people overcome hurdles to go through the daily grind. So much so, that when Mini goes missing and Vidya meets an accident, there is a sense of void. Some of the twists in the second half may seem predictable, but it’s buoyed by some fantastic performances.
