Bairavaa (Vijay) is a loan collection agent and he makes a living with his friend Comedian Satish. His agency manager invites him for his daughter's wedding and he finds his love Mazharvizhi (Keerthi Suresh). But Keerthi Suresh has a shocking past and some goons are behind her. She reveals her dark past to Bhairavaa. She is a medical college student and the Chariman of the college runs a Medical institution. The college doesn't have any facilities and Mazhar steps up and lodges a complaint to Medical Commission and authorities inspect the college and they decide to cancel the license. However, the authorities are attracted towards the college girls and the Chairman sends Mazhar friend to the authority as a bribe to grant license. She gets raped and murdered. Mazhar lodges case against the Chairman with help of her father and her father also gets killed. Mazhar is helpless and she says all these to Bairavaa. Bairavaa fights for her justice and he stands agaisnt the Chairman. Yep! you've guessed it..! The lead actor does all unbelievable gimmicks and finally we have a 'Happy Ending'(?)

First of all, Kudos to Vijay for choosing Director Bharathan even after he gave a flop with 'Azhagiya Tamil Magan'. Director Bharathan also continues the same flop streak. It's really so sad and disappointing to see a fantastic actor losing his track by doing these crap Masala movies. Vijay tries so hard but the script and screenplay is too awful and even his screen presence couldn't save the movie. Vijay scores in Pre-interval action scene and his dance moves are a treat to watch, but that alone is not enough. Keerthi Suresh is wasted. She is resplendent and has a screen presence but she is completely alienated in the rural area girl getup. In fact, the slang she uses is even more pathetic. For heaven sake, "Yela, Vaale.. is not NELLAI slang.."! Daniel Balaji as villain is the saving grace in the supporting cast. He scores better than Jagapathi Babu. Rest of the cast are just fillers and are completely wasted. A good movie has to have a good villain. 'Bairavaa' has none! The villain is intelligent, not menacing, not memorable. He is just dumb, die and that's it. Keerthi Suresh's sister character, Thambi ramaiah character, Harish Uttaman and lots more actors were wasted and the way their characters are shaped is just painfully awful.

The movie has no structure. Director has clearly sticked to 'VIJAY TEMPLATE BASICS'. An intro where camera pans on bicycle tyre, shoes, eyes, lips and then he flies in air.... uufff! In which period we live in? Wake up Vijay! We all know you are the lead hero in 'Bairavaa'. That's why we entered the theatre. We are not going to see Vijay Sethupathi instead of you. Then we have an a silly action scene with Cricket bat and then an intro song with meaningless lyrics. Santosh Narayanan has decided the theme music 'Varalaam Varalaam vaa' alone is enough and he has just over slept during rest of the songs composition. Or he must have thought, this crap script deserves such crap tunes. Action scenes are absurd and nonsensical. If you don't trust us, watch the fight scene with Daniel Balaji where there is no 'Varalaam vaa' Background. Just waste. And why on earth that Foreign location song and folk song in second half when already the proceedings in second half are UNBEARABLE? We seriously feel sorry for Actor Vijay as he is the biggest victim of typecasting in Kollywood and he does his best with the roles he is given but the odd film slips through the net, and sadly 'Bairavaa' is one of them. Screenplay may have loopholes, but this movie has thought all audience are dumb just like the Villain.

'Ghilli', 'Thuppakki', 'Kaththi' movies were all about entertainment and they were done with class, integrity and art. But 'Bairavaa' is completely opposite to that. With such an inane screenplay and self-praising dialogues and 'Varalaam vaa' Background score, the movie remains lifeless and stiff. The bad-guys are cardboard characters and cliché. The story lacks any real cohesion. There is just no point to this movie.

Vijay,Keerthy Suresh,Bharathan,B. Bharathi Reddy,Santhosh Narayanan"When this movie finally ended, our thoughts were, "That's it?" Yep. 3 hours of our life gone forever."
