What Is Bad:  Dragging Narration at times, Confusion in Characterization, 1990 story plot in new comic-thriller bottle.

Boring Scenes:  Repetitive scenes during second half.

Ghanchakkar Review: Story

Expert safe-locker cracker Sanjay Athray [Emraan Hashmi]... along with two more expert criminals [Rajesh Sharma and Namit Das] plans out HUGE robbery, Which is claimed as life settlement & retirement enabled. With a hillarious plan of using Amitabh, Dharmendra masks... The trio completes robbery successfully. Sanjay is given all the money to safe guard for 3 months till things get cool down and then the trio takes each of their cut.

As planned rest of the team [Rajesh, Namit] re-appear after 3 months but find out that Sanjay as amnesia patient due to recent accident, dragging life with his wife Nitu [Vidya] and Sanjay refuse to identify them as well remembers neither about the robbery nor the money. Did this trio managed to find the money? Was Sanjay's amnesia real or did he played a dangerous game with Rajesh & Namit to evade the money? What does his wife got to do with all these? to be seen on silver screen.

Ghanchakkar Review: StarPerformances

In casual, most unfashionable nightwear attire.... yet with loud punjabi voice... Vidya Balan resembled house wife so perfectly and naturally. Be it taking food away from husband because he complained about less salt or shouting at her hubby with loud voice or mocking  her mother-in-law... The kind of ease and confidence Vidya exhibited in her performance is much more matured even from the days of "Dirty Picture". While Emraan performed well... Vidya still steal the show with her rough comedy along with the performance.

For much of his cunning roles Emraan Hasmi may be branded as Actor who goes on someone's wife... and also serial kisser, but in this everyone evidence nothing but fantastic natural performance of Emraan. He was given an opportunity to a play role with multiple shades.  As a lazy man who loves to see TV all the time, likes TV more than his wife... his performance was natural. As a master mind who plans robbery, As an amnesia patient and more... Emraan lived upto the requirement of role.

Rest of the characters helped to elevate the story plot and enhanced performance from them gave chances for lead pair while bringing enough laughs in theater.

Ghanchakkar Review: Direction, Music & Technical Aspects

No One Killed Jessica, Aamir caught enough attention of not only audiences but also film critics... This further created buzz about Raj Kumar Gupta's abilities in carving out script intelligently and executing the same flawlessly. Raj managed to bring-in the clever thought process into the way he presented story. He was successful in getting the stellar performances out of almost all the artists. The way he combined the Thriller with comedy elements was neat. But he wasn't too successful picking in a virgin story such as No One Killed Jessica. Ghanchakkar story plot sounds more like from 1990's and stands out to be minus of the film. Repeated scenes in between... Confusion created due to taking audience from one time - to - another time with no leading time... may stand out as the minus and reasons for divide talk.

Screenplay is another let down in Ghanchakkar... with rigorous screenplay this movie should have certainly crossed the line of Safe Project. Editing is heart for movies of this genre, and the Ghanchakkar editor executed his duties very well by closing the movie before audience take the movie from above average to a dud. Background score was okay.

Ghanchakkar Review: Analysis

Ghanchakkar is not an end-to-end Crime or Suspense or Thriller or Comedy movie... but combination of all these. This rare treatment is precisely "plus and minus of the movie". If you are lover of typical Bollywood Thriller, Suspense genre movies... you might find this movie absurd and insane. But if you are contemporary audience, you would certainly appreciate the way Cast & Crew managed to run the humour through out the movie. The way roles of Vidya and Emraan are sketched as well presented. 

Had the team managed to maintain momentum, increase pace of the movie, work out more interesting screenplay that could have avoid repetitive scenese during second half and finally a better climax... This could have been a must watch film. With out all above Ghanchakkar turns out to be one time watcher for Vidya, Emran performance and kewl presentation of the story.

Bottom Line: Ghanchakkar Laughs you Out Loudly for atleast one time.
