In this action thriller movie Babu finds his reputation of being the number one contract killer at risk when Banke comes into play. Both of them receive the contracts to kill the same three people, which is when the two decide to play a game whoever kills more, is the undisputed number 1. However, unbeknownst to them, another game is being played and Babu needs to ensure that he is neither the target nor a pawn.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui often challenges me to find new phrases to praise his performance. He is just fantabulous here. Jatin Goswami is another great find. The supporting cast, involving Divya Dutta, Anil George and Murali Sharma have done a fabulous job. But then every character in the movie is bad in various ways. But the same traits also apply to the male characters as well, so equality is maintained.
The movie's first half is lighter in a black comedy sort of way, the second half is more serious and grim. It is to Nandy’s credit that he has managed to find a balance between both the tones. But even in darker scenes, you find some nuggets of black humour. The background scoring is made excellently. The movie has more stunt scenes and kissing scenes. That may or may not suit you!
The movie delivers it’s message that Crime never pays, as every bad character gets its comeuppance in one way or another. Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is a violent drama filled with terrific dialogues, engaging sequences and fab performances, led by the always brilliant Nawazuddin Siddiqui. If you have taste for gritty gangster drama, with a sprinkling of dark humour, then this Bandookbaaz is for you.
