After failing with several attempts as a solo hero, young hero Jai, whose last hit happens to be the cricket flick Chennai 28 IInd Innings which had an ensemble cast, has this time joined hands with debutant Director Sinish to dish out a horror flick Balloon. Has Jai scored a success this time? Here's team AP Herald's exclusive Balloon FDFS review.

A filmmaker goes to Ooty and checks a haunted house in order to get some inspiration for his new Horror movie. But the place has a connection with his own past and how he gets revenge forms the rest of the story.

Jai is his usual cool self and as the two characters Jeeva and Charlie, shows ample variation, as Charlie is an innocent self, and Jeeva is an intelligent and action oriented guy, and Jai easily breathes life into both the roles. Anjali, one of his favorite onscreen pairs amazes in her role as Jacqueline, and displays the horror avatar and fear equally in an  effective manner. However Janani steals the show with her shirt and impactful role in the flashback. Yogi Babu evokes laughter whenever he appears on screen. Watch out for Raj Tarun's cameo appearance.

Yuvan Shankar Raja's scintillating BGM matches the dark mood of the movie and generates enough spooks and much needed thrills in the horror shots. Of his songs, Uyirile Uyirile and Mazhai Megam pass the muster. Saravanan's Cinematography is top notch and makes the horror shots stunning. Ruben's taut editing makes balloon a crisp attempt. Debutant Director Sinish has chosen a comfortable plot of a horror premise, with a couple entering a haunted place and face the wrath of spirits vying for completion of their revenge mission.

With interesting humour laced screenplay with nice twists and decent performances, stunning BGM and visuals, Sinish has weaved a predictable plot in an engaging screenplay, with some nice twists in the second half. The crisp runtime and pacy proceedings make Balloon worth a watch despite several occasional drags and predictable flashback.
