What Is Good
- Varun Tej
- First Half
- Technical Team
What Is Bad
- Second Half
- Rushed Climax
- No screen space for established actors
- Loses track totally in the latter part
Varun Tej is seen playing an energetic role in stark contrast to his Fidaa role of a subtle act guy, and he has got to play a character that goes through varied emotions in 3 different phases of his life, and excels in expressing the character's love and pain perfectly. Raashi Khanna's role begins as a bubbly and innocent girl next door character, and she ultimately gets to display a variety of expressions unlike her routine glam roles and the actress proves her histrionic capabilities to the fullest in Tholi Prema. Sapna pabbi plays a small yet vital role, while Priyadarshi takes charge of the subtle humor which evokes laughs. Suhasini is a perfect fit for her role. The rest of the cast do not get much screen space, as the movie is essentially about Varun and Raashi.
S Thaman's background score is an asset to Tholi Prema, as his soothing and pleasant BGM raises the Romance quotient, and of his songs, Sunona, Ninnila and Alasana vari are impressive and hum-worthy. George C Williams presents Tholi Prema as a worthy visual experience, with colorful and stunning visuals, capturing the Beauty of London in all its glory and the flashback love sequences at Vizag and montage songs in a memorable way. Navin nooli's sharp editing makes Tholi Prema a neat and engaging movie experience. Director Venky Atluri has got a decent performer like Varun Tej and a cute heroine Raashi, and perfectly places them in a universally appealing theme of a pleasant love story, and succeeds in his debut by perfectly connecting to the audience.
The Director's interesting plot of the protagonist's quest for his first love, is sure to get the audience connected to it, with its beautiful lead pair performing lively, and with some interesting twists and fresh love sequences, besides also boasting of a talented technical team including good music and songs by Thaman and scintillating visuals by George C Williams adding to the beauty of Tholi Prema.
Director Venky Atluri has taken the safe plot of a love story and despite being a routine, beaten to death premise, makes it interesting and exciting with his freshness and the chemistry he has portrayed between the lead pair in the first half, that instantly appeals to the audience, but somehow loses track slightly towards the end of the second half, ending with a badly written and rushed climax. Though not on par with the classic namesake blockbuster starring Pawan Kalyan, this Tholi Prema is a decent one time watch.
