Director Hari, known for his pact screenplays and mass movies has returned with the sequel to his 2003 blockbuster mass cop flick Saamy, joining hands yet again with Chiyaan Vikram in Saamy Square. Here's team AP Herald's exclusive first on net Saamy Square review.

Ramasamy (Vikram) follows his father Aarusamy's (Vikram again) footsteps and is a righteous vip who stands for justice and is waiting for revenge for the death of his father and mother Bhuvana (Aishwarya Rajesh). Enters Ravana Pichai who comes from Sri Lanka to establish his money laundering network in India besides also on a revenge mission to kill the killers if his father Perumal Pichai (Kota Srinivasa Rao). Now What happens when Ramasamy crosses path of Ravana Pichai and whose revenge ultimately won is what Saamy Square is all about.

Chiyaan Vikram despite his age, looks fit and dapper as both the cops, Aarusamy and Ramasamy, and he plays the typical Hari hero mouthing loud punches and bashing baddies in his typical inimitable Saamy style. Keerthy Suresh plays the typical eye candy, while Aishwarya Rajesh is adequate as the replacement for Trisha, though she could not make much impact. Bobby Simha plays antagonist Ravana Pichai and he's more of a loud caricature than a menace and supported by his brothers played by John Vijay and OAK Sundar the trio is typically designed with all 80s cliches and stereotypes.

Devi Sri Prasad's background score is loud and jarring and one would definitely wonder why Hari had swapped Singam and Saamy composers, and of the songs Metro rail and Molaga podi are appealing.  Cinematography by Priyan and Venkatesh capture the massy sequences impressively, while editing by Vijayan keeps Saamy Square crisp.

Hari is a typical director who's known for his loud mouthed, punch hurling, baddie bashing at will heroes set in a typical South Tamilnadu setup and here, our Tirunelveli cop Aarusamy returns along with another character Ramasamy and this time it's double the fun. While the first half moves at a brisk pace with several mass moments thanks to Harris BGM re-use, the second half is filled with racy chase sequences and the cat and mouse game between Saamy and Pichai is filled with terrific goosebumps moments. Though there are several cliches, Vikram with his massive screen presence and Hari with his interesting and engaging, pacy screenplay make sure Saamy Square lives up to the hype and ends as a back to form flick for Chiyaan and Hari.
