Bottom Line: DC scores another success with Shazam

After the successful Aquaman, DC comics are back with their next outing, the David Sandberg directorial fun filled superhero flick Shazam. With humongous hype and massive expectations riding on Shazam, thanks to the humor-filled teaser promos, one expected an interesting entertainer from the movie. Here's team AP Herald's exclusive first on net Shazam review.

Billy Batson (Asher Angel) moves from one foster home to another in an attempt to locate his mother, and on the way towards reaching his mother, Billy gets to meet a wizard (Djimon Hounsou) who gifts him a superpower, which will enable him to turn into an adult(Zachary Levi) who has amazing superpowers by just saying the word Shazam.

Star Performance

Billy Batson is amazing as he longs for his mother, and goes on a search hunt to find his mother, and as the other version of the character and the outcome of Shazam, Zachary Levi impresses with his superpower display presented in a humorous way. Djimon Hounsou is impactful as the wizard, and the rest of the cast is about adequate.

Techinical Team

Background score by Benjamin Wallfisch is scintillating, and the cinematography by Maxime Alexandre captures the visual grandeur in all glory. Editing by Michel Aller is also taut and makes the movie crisp. Visual effects deserve special applause. The movie is technically solid and it has no flaws. DC has decided to step out of the dark tone and that was obvious since Wonder Woman. Later, Aquaman proved it and now 'Shazam' follows it

Director David Sandberg begins the movie establishing the origin of Shazam with fun-filled episodes and presents the kid version in all glory portraying the enthusiasm, fun, emotions and then in the contrasting opposite Shazam episodes laces humor throughout and thoroughly entertains. Both Zachary Levi and Asher Angel amaze in their acts, and the antagonists are also designed in such a way as to evoke laughter. With a breezy first half and the stunning second half with visual grandeur and fun elements perfectly added, Shazam is a perfect entertainer for the weekend.
