Mega hero supreme star Sai Dharam Tej is back on screen after a break with his fun-filled romantic entertainer Chitralahari costarring two beauties Nivetha Pethuraj and Kalyani Priyadarshan and two top comedians Sunil and Vennela Kishore for the company. Sai Dharam Tej and Kalyani Priyadarshan are in love and everything goes smoothly until misunderstanding happens between then and enters Nivetha Pethuraj who's Kalyani's friend and as per her advice, she breaks up with Sai Dharam Tej. Why did Nivetha separate their love and was he able to win Kalyani love again is what Chitralahari is all about.
Sai Dharam Tej is excellent as the loser lover and his emotions are conveyed well. Both Kalyani Priyadarshan and Nivetha Pethuraj have distinct characters and both of them excel with their expressions and are pretty. Sunil and Vennela Kishore equally entertain with their hilarious dialogues and fun-filled episodes. The rest of the cast is adequate but fails to impress. Sai Dharam Tej character was designed so well and he played a matured character after a long time. Posani also performed so well.
Devi Sri Prasad's background score is mostly good while of his songs, Prema Vennela, glass mates are good. Cinematography by Karthik makes Chitralahari a visually appealing movie and Sreekar Prasad's editing is taut. The production values by Mythri Movie Makers is really good. But everything ends in vain as we can't get more connected. The writing is too shallow as we can see so many weak characterizations.
Kishore Tirumala had delivered the flop Vunnadi Okate Zindagi last and has now come with another love story and this time has weaved it with a loser hero and two contrasting heroines. The first half moves In a Fun and Okayish manner and the second half is emotional and slow-paced.
Though the screenplay is not quite engaging, the director could have avoided cliches and predictability. With good performances and lovely songs, despite some predictability issues, Chitralahari ends as a can watch return to form for Sai Dharam Tej.
