What Is Good
After starring in horror comedy Balloon, Telugu dusky beauty and intense performer Anjali returns on screen, this time teaming with debutant director Raju Viswanath for the first 3D horror flick Lisaa. Here's team AP Herald's exclusive first on net Lisaa review.
Lisaa is in love with Rahul and she tries to convince her mom. But her mom says she suffers a lot by falling in love and her parents ignored her. Finally, Lisa convinces her mom that she will go to her grandparents and convince them to accept her and if she does it, she gets a deal that her mom agrees for her love. Lisa travels to the hill station along with her boyfriend to convince her grandparents. But there's something fishy about them and some spooky elements evoke more fear. Are they really her grandparents? What if they aren't? All answers should be watched on the big screen.
Anjali has given a subtle performance as the woman filled with fear and as the possessed woman and impresses. Sam Jones is adequate while Makarand Deshpande is good in his scope. Yogi Babu and Brahmanandam evoke laughs occasionally and the rest of the cast do not have much to do. The old age grandparents role are perfect. They are scary and also emotional. The whole movie revolves around four characters and each of them has done their part well. Sam Jones is an exception as he looks like Anjali's baby brother in most of the scenes.
Background score by Santhosh Dhayanidhi is eerie and is good in parts while his songs don't impress. Cinematography by PG Muthiah is top notch capturing the horror episodes well while editing by Fazil must have been better. Visual effects don't have much to offer, but the makeup is really good. The production values are not so high as the movie revolves around the home in the hill station for most of the time.
Debutant director Raju Viswanath has taken a very routine and beaten to death plot of a girl venturing a haunted place, getting possessed and how she gets off the trouble and the problem is that he has presented the cliched story in a very simple and predictable manner. First half moves with unnecessary songs and forced comedy and the movie gains momentum from interval and second Half is better though the scenes are ripped off from previous hit horror movies and ultimately, despite good acting by Anjali, Lisaa ends as an average outing.
