Besharam Review: Story

Babli [Ranbir Kapoor] an orphan steals cars to support his Orphanage. Chandel [Javed Jaffrey] a local don wanted a reliable person to get him a stolen new car. That’s how Babli and T2 [Amitosh] meet Chandel and finalize the deal. Meanwhile, Bubli falls in love with Tara [Pallavi Sharda], a manager in a corporate company. Unfortunately Bubli steals Tara’s brand new car and completes the deal with Chandel. When Babli discovers that car belonged to the lady he loves the most, he decides to take the back the car from Chandel. Did Tara accept a car stealer’s love? Will Bubli succeed in stealing the car back from Chandel? Did cops (Rishi & Neetu) catch Bubli forms the rest of the storyline.

Besharam Review: StarPerformances

Ranabir Kapoor delivers the comedic lines perfectly and earns few laughs, buts its other half of the film where he looks uncomfortable on screen. Even his dancing grace was missing in this film. It’s not his fault the screenplay is a big littered mess, he took on such a crappy role that made him look bad. Miss India Australia Pallavi Sharda has similar cuts of Tena Desae [Slumdog Millionaire & the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel fame]. Pallavi Sharda’s expressions are very tenantive, she should work on her acting. Performances by veteran Rishi Kapoor & Neetu Singh as police officers who are on the verge of retirement are all right. Due to them climax looks bearable, even though their character arc was not fully developed. Amitosh as T2 is spiritless. Rest of the actors has nothing to do except for settling for a cheap comedy.

Besharam Review: Direction, Music & Technical Aspects

Director Abhinav Kashyap who has directed a commercial hit film Dabangg with Salman Khan has disappointed with his work in Besharam. The movie goes on torturing audience from the scene one. As this film is a rom com, timing in comedy and feel in romance are very important. Abhinav did not show command over handling love & comedy scenes. The story of the film is very thin, with 80’s touch. The conception in the film is too stilted and filmic. Scenes like Pallavi’s sudden change, Ranbir fake realization and Rishi-Neetu relationship could have shot in a better way. Dialogues in the film are funny in parts, like Mere seene mein dil nahi dost jigar hai, who tootha nahi. Music of the film is terrible, Lalit Pandit’s tunes invokes a sense of déjà vu. Songs didn’t gel well with the film. BGM is not upto the mark. Cinematography by Madhu Vannier looks fine. Fights in the film are long and dragged. Editor Pranav Dhiwar could've easily cut the unwanted scenes to make the narration in shape. Post Production values are grand in this film.

Besharam Review: Analysis

Besharam is a torturous experience featuring a messy script and characters so annoying and unlikable. Comedy is the subjective of most genres, what one finds funny, another might find foul. Besharam tests this theory more than twenty times preparing scenarios with the sole intention of putting ones gag reflex or personal discomfort in gesture. Don’t waste your time and money on this film, or if you must wait to rent its home edition. Besharam is typical film gone lopsided due to lack of real conviction. The worst 138 minutes I’ve spent in theatre in recent times.

Bottom Line : Dry Day turns Bheja Fry Day
