Story:
After petta, Superstar Rajnikanth is back on the silver screen with his festive Release darbar where he has joined hands with director AR murugadoss for the first time in his career. Here's team ap Herald's exclusive first on net darbar review.
Aaditya Arunachalam (Rajnikanth) the
mumbai commissioner loses his daughter Valli (Nivetha Thomas) after his conflict with Don
hari Chopra(Suniel Shetty) whose son
ajay Malhotra( Prateik Babbar) he had killed, takes revenge. Now Aaditya goes on a
gangster killing rampage and was Aaditya able to reach
hari Chopra and eliminate him completely is what
darbar is all about.
Performances:
Superstar Rajnikanth is energetic and performs well in emotional sequences as well as the
mass episodes where he gracefully aces the moments. Nayanthara in a limited role is elegant and does what's expected.
nivetha thomas gets a meaty role and performs very well and her scenes with Rajnikanth are a treat.
suniel shetty as the antagonist is cliched and looks out of place, and doesn't look menacing. In fact, he appears only in the second half.
yogi babu gives laughs. The rest of the cast doesn't have much to do.
Technicalities:
The background score by
anirudh is pure goosebumps material. 'Kannula Thimiru' is the best of the lot and it is sure to make everyone go crazy. Santosh Sivan's top-class cinematography makes
darbar a visual treat while Sreekar Prasad's editing could have been better.
Analysis:
Director AR
murugadoss who has delivered a hat-trick of flops with Akira,
spyder, and Sarkar has this time joined hands with Superstar Rajnikanth for the first time. The
movie begins on a promising note but slowly takes the routine route and with unexpected emotional moments and Rajini-fied moments, the
movie ends on a high. The first half moves in a leisurely pace while the second half slightly drags with the unwanted song though moves at a brisk pace, ending in a fine manner. Rajnikanth is the driving force of the
movie and it is his energy that carries the
movie to the end, and his
mass filled act and several goosebumps moments make
darbar an awesome
watch despite few issues. All said,
darbar is a complete
mass masala entertainer.
