Whenever much hyped films made by big directors sink at the box office the worst hit are the distributors and buyers. When the film is in making they buy at high prices expecting it to work but when it doesn’t then things go wrong. Something like that has happened with director Mani Ratnam’s latest venture ‘Kadali’.  The film failed big time in both Tamil and Telugu versions. With this, the distributors reportedly approached Mani Ratnam seeking some compensation but got a straightforward answer. It is heard that Mani reportedly told them the film was sold way back in March 2012 to Gemini Industries and Imaging Ltd on Minimum Guarantee basis.  He has reportedly made it clear that it is not his responsibility for the film’s loss compensation. Reports say the distributors managed to make only Rs 2 crores after spending Rs 10 crores. Even overseas market also declared ‘Kadali’ as a dud with collections at just Rs 38.19 lakhs in US, Rs 20.54 lakhs in UK.
