Director Sundar.C, who was supposed to start working on his Magnum Opus Sangamitra starring Arya, Jayam Ravi, and Shruthi Hassan, suffered a major setback, when Shruthi Hassan, who was supposed to play the title role quite the project citing that she wasn't narrated the script fully. Later it was also reported that Bollywood actress Disha Patani (MS Dhoni fame) will star In the lead role.
However, in a sudden twist of the events, Sundar.C announced a new project, Kalakalappu 2, the sequel to his 2012 comedy entertainer that starred Mirchi Shiva, Vimal, Oviya and Anjali in lead roles. This new flick will star Jiiva, Jai, Nikki Galrani and Catherine Tresa, and will have music by Hip Hop Thamizha.
The team will begin shooting by the month of October in Karaikudi, following which the shoot will happen in Kasi, and Hyderabad's Ramoji Rao Film city, and wrap shooting by December. Sundar.C plans to release this film produced by Kushboo in Avni Cinemax banner for Pongal 2018. It must be noted that the Surya - Keerthy Suresh starrer Vignesh Shivan's con flick Thaanaa Serndha Koottam has also been scheduled to release on Pongal festival season.
