Tamil actor Prashanth, who was once a top actor in Tamil cinema, starring even in films of big directors like Shankar and Mani Ratnam, and had many hits to his credit, besides also starring in few Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi  films, slowly faded out with poor career choices, and his beefed-up physique not gelling well with any of the scripts he chose to star. While he had scored blockbusters with movies like Jeans costarring Aishwarya Rai, Kannenthire Thondrinaal with Simran to name a few, he failed miserably and was forced to star in his own production ventures, directed by his dad Thyagarajan himself.

Prashanth tried his hands starring in own productions like his dad's remake Mambattiyaan, the historical dual role flick Ponnar Shankar scripted by DMK leader M.Karunanidhi, besides also starring in the Tamil remake of Allu Arjun starrer superhit flick Julayi, as Saahasam, all of which failed. Recently, even the rights of Special 26 which was with Thyagarajan's production banner, was let go of, as Suriya had scored a success with Thaanaa Serndha Koottam, the movie inspired by Special 26.
