In 2015, director Balaji Mohan, known for his soft and romantic entertainers like Kadhalil Sodhappuvathu Yeppadi with Siddharth- Amala Paul and Vaayai Moodi pesavum with Dulquer Salmaan - Nazriya Nazim, made a movie completely contrasting to his image, a typical mass masala entertainer Maari starring Dhanush and Kajal Aggarwal in lead Roles.
The movie opened to mixed reviews, and Dhanush's look became a highlight, while Anirudh also made waves with his rocking tunes, and finally, the movie ended as a commercially successful venture for all parties concerned. As Dhanush went on to proceed with his other projects, Balaji Mohan had always hinted of a sequel to Maari, before making a web series in the meantime. All eyes are on Sai Pallavi who is replacing Kajal as the female lead. The chemistry between Kajal and Dhanush worked last time and will it happen once again?
Now after numerous announcements on the cast and crew and even recording the first song of the movie in isaignani Ilayaraja's voice and in Yuvan Shankar Raja's music, the team Maari 2 have started shooting recently with a formal Pooja at Nellaiappar temple, Tirunelveli, where Sai Pallavi, Dhanush, and Robot Shankar were present. This Balaji Mohan Directorial also stars Tovino Thomas, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, and Kreshna.
