The biopic of the legendary actress Savithri, Mahanati directed by Yevade Subramanyam fame Nag Ashwin and starring Keerthy Suresh in the lead role has released today amidst great expectations. Mahanati begins with Prajavani newspaper reporters Madhuravani and Vijay Antony given the assignment to cover Savithri's life story and they study and get to cover her story, her birth, entry to films, rise to fame, marriage and downfall of relationship with Gemini Ganesan, the resorting to alcohol and the ultimate end.
The movie has a towering performance by Keerthy Suresh who has lived as Savithri, and with impressive supporting acts by Dulquer Salmaan, Samantha, Vijay Deverakonda and the rest of the cast. With impressive music and cinematography and art department bringing alive the era of Savithri, Nag Ashwin presents an interesting screenplay that engages constantly despite 3 hours runtime and presents the audience a unique movie watching experience and a must watch the movie for the generation to know one of the greatest legends of the industry.
