It is becoming more like an open secret that cinema award functions are nothing but eyewash events and most of the awards are given through heavy lobbying and personal favors rather than identifying genuine talent. The latest in that process is the recently concluded SIIMA event which took place in Dubai.

The nominee list comprises of legends like S P Balasubramaniam, Shankar Mahadevan and even Adnan Sami. But none of them got the award and guess who got it, it is none other than music director Thaman.
Reports say Thaman won the best singer award for his song ‘Saar Ostharosthara…’ from the hit film ‘Businessman’. Not only were those present during the event shocked at this but from that moment on, everyone is laughing. This incident has become a big black mark for this prestigious event and Thaman has become a laughing stock for everyone.
