Indian Government had nominated ‘Swati Mutyam’ as it’s officially entry for Oscars in 1982. This is the only Telugu film till date which made its presences left in best foreign language films category.
Swati Mutyam film is directed and written by K.Vishwanath. Kamal Haasan and Raadhika has given their career best performances in this film. Ilaiyaraaja’s music stands as back bone in film success.
This movie was later dubbed into Tamil as "Sippikul Muthu", and remade in Hindi as ‘Eeshwar’ and in Kannada as ‘Swathi Muthu’ with the same cast and technical team which worked in Telugu film.
Even though this film missed to bag Oscar award, it was awarded National Film Award for Best Feature Film in 1986. Andhra Pradesh government has also rewarded Nandi Award under best film category.
