Samuthirakani initially directed flop movies like 'Unnai Saranadainthen' and 'Neranja Manasu'. Both the movies failed miserably and he moved to serials. He worked in Radhika's Radaan and gained some experience.
Later he came and directed 'Nadodigal' and the movie was a huge success. 'Poraali', 'Nimirnthu Nil' made him a lead director. He acted as a rigid cop in the movie 'Eesan'. Later 'Saatai' earned him accolades.
In 'Paayum Puli' he did role of antagonist and a bad politician.
He earned a good reputation in short period. He also chooses scripts wisely and he is one of the most wanted character artist right now. Recently in 'Paayum Puli' he did role of antagonist and a bad politician.
Now in a recent interview, Samuthirakani said, he was called by Late.K.Balachandar and he has said that he wanted to direct a movie with him. The director has also praised that his eyes were powerful and will suit the role.
