Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has took a hit against ruling BJP Government and has said that the decision to merge the Overseas Indian Affairs Ministry with the External Affairs Ministry is an 'insult' to the whole NRI community.

He also wrote a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi voicing his objection towards the new decision. Oommen Chandy also had a meeting with Minister of External affairs, Ms.Sushma Swaraj and conveyed his views.

In his recent interview to a leading daily he said, "The whole of NRI community is having a huge let down by the decision of Indian Government. A separate ministry for overseas Indians is a must. In fact it is a necessity to address their concerns and issues.

External Affairs ministry can intervene, but there is a chance that the ministry has more work to deal with foreign policy challenges. I am so shocked to hear about the abrupt decision to merge the Overseas Indian Affairs Ministry with the External Affairs Ministry without any proper analysis or consultation."
