Assembly elections are closing by and they NRI's who are about to play a major part in the upcoming elections are being welcomed with warm hands. NRI's are declared as Proclaimed Offenders (POs).
At the same time those who have 'Red Corner' or notices will be under Police radar. They will be immediately asked to appear at the earliest before the court. Police clearly mentioned it doesn't matter whether it is Civil or Criminal case. NRIs from Punjab will also not be declared POs if they are absent.
When an NRI is declared as PO by court lands at airport, Immigration authorities will inform the police. And if their passport details fed in the system reveal their PO status, action will be taken against them. Each state government submit a list of POs to Immigration authorities.
Punjab already submitted a pruned list of NRI POs to the Immigration authorities and they have mentioned the people who can be arrested. For this purpose, Punjab has slashed the list from 700 to 200 POs. Earlier in 2013, the PO list was slashed from 1,400 to 744.
