According to sources Rachit Patel, from Mumbai, celebrated the milestone along with students and teachers as he began his studies on the Art and Design Foundation program at the College. Patel said "This wonderful bursary is a real help towards his education. Coming to study here in the UK was something he had always wanted to do and he was really excited to be here, but he never expected that he would be making history on his first day”.

He said "He can't wait to further his education here at the BCUIC in these beautiful surroundings, before he progress on to the BA (Hons) Media and Communication undergraduate degree at Birmingham BSE 0.00 % City University in September”.

Meanwhile when opened less than five years ago, BCUIC provides undergraduate and post graduate pathways to Birmingham City University for international students who do not meet the universities direct entry requirements enabling them to progress on to a full-fledged Bachelor's or Master's degree. Further the BCUIC is a few miles from the centre of Birmingham, close to the world-famous Cadbury's chocolate factory in the city's Bournville suburb.
