Special Status for Andhra Pradesh is becoming a highly emotive and emotive issue. CM Chandra Babu,chief of TDP is reconciled to the fact that whatever may be his actions, PM Modi's Union Government willnot accord special status but only special package, decided to accept special package and started convincing the people of the state that he package he got is better than the special status.
BJP leaders too along with TDP who came to power promising special status in the general elections are now promoting special package as the best and are rolling out figures to support their arguments. Under these circumstances YSRCP president Jagan Mohan Reddy who is the leader of the opposition,started blasting CBN and PM.Modi for going back on the poll promise and cheating people of AP.
Jagan speaking at Yuva Bheri at ‘Sri Convention Center’ at Eluru in East Godavari District cornered PM Modi and CM Chandra Babu on special package, explaining the advantages of special status. To drive home the point he even carried with him copies of speeches made by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, documents related to A.P. Reorganization Act and Polavaram to prove his points.
He questioned why Chandra babu accepted special package and blasted him for thanking PM Modi. He said "SCS would give incentives to the State like 100 per cent tax exemption in GST, 100 per cent excise duty exemption, power supply to industries at 50 per cent and freight reimbursement.If we are going to get so many benefits through SCS, the CM is making false statements,”
He said the National Development Council (NDC) president, who was also the Prime Minister, had powers to decide on SCS which even NITI Aayog did not have.
Jagan pointed out that the 14 Finance Commission had objected to give special status, but the Commission had no right to take a decision on special status for any State.
