1.Cops to ensure no cockfights in village..The otherwise nondescript and quiet hamlet of Shivapally in Peddapally district comes alive on the eve of Sankranthi. Gamblers from from Nizamabad , Adilabad districts flock to the village for its famous cockfights held every year on the eve of the festival. Apparently, a huge amount of money is pooled in betting for roosters.
2.State budget to give big boost to welfare sector.In order to make his mark on the annual state budget for the coming fiscal year, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has intensified holding series of meetings with officials of all departments to know their financial requirements so as to allocate funds for each of them proportionately.
3.Tourism department to resurrect 14th century Gond fort in Utnoor.The lost glory of Raj Gonds will shine once again if all goes as per the plans of tourism department.Constructed some 708 years ago in Utnoor, most probably in 1309 AD, the fort has seen centuries of neglect. However, now the tourism department has selected the historical fort as a tourism spot and is mulling steps for its development.
4.Accidents mar festive spirit of Sankranthi in Telangana. In a hurry to watch the latest Tollywood flick ‘Khaidi 150,’ a 21-year-old biker hit a septuagenerian who was trying to cross the road near Kothapet here on Thursday night. The victim G Narasimha succumbed to his injuries.It was at around 11.30 pm, when an engineering graduate B Bharath of Dilsukhnagar was on his way to a theatre in LB Nagar to watch the newly released Chiranjeevi movie.He lost control of the speeding bike and hit the old man. Narasimha suffered a severe head injury.  With the help of locals, Bharath shifted the injured man to a nearby hospital, but the doctors declared that he was brought dead.
5.Muslims divided over proposed withdrawal.Centre’s proposal to remove subsidy for poor Muslims to go on Haj Pilgrimage to Mecca and Madina has led to debate among intellectuals and politicos of TS Muslim community.While some opposed this proposal outright, others welcomed this move saying that the funds spent for this purpose can be used for welfare and education of the poor.
6.No real-time monitoring of industrial pollution in TS.Real-time monitoring of industrial pollution has been a pipe dream of the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) since 2014 when the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) issued guidelines on it. We are into year 2017 now, and the project is yet to take off.
7.Schedule X institutions tussle: Centre wants TS, AP to respond in 10 days.The ongoing tussle between TS and AP over sharing of assets and liabilities relating to institutions listed in Schedule X of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, is here to stay as the meeting organised by the Centre with officials of the two states ended inconclusively on Friday.
8.Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Raog promises to fill vacancies.The state government will soon fill up the posts of constables in the state. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao held a review meeting on several issues pertaining to the police department at Pragathi Bhavan on Friday.
9.Chief Secretary in Delhi to expedite President’s assent to Land bill.Chief Secretary SP Singh rushed to Delhi on Thursday to push the State’s Land Acquisition bill, which was adopted in the ongoing winter session of the State Legislative Assembly.
10.KCR to shrug off ‘inaccessible’ tag by directly meeting public.With opposition parties stepping up heat on the government by organising protests on various issues, ruling TRS too has decided to hold meetings with people to counter the opposition’s allegations and explain its development programmes to people.
11.AP Bhavan: Claims by TS, AP irk Centre.AP Bhavan: Claims by TS, AP irk CentreUnion home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi is learnt to have expressed displeasure over Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states  quarrelling with each other over sharing  AP Bhavan in Delhi.Following Telangana’s claim recently to full ownership of AP Bhavan’s land and building, the Union home secretary held a video conference with chief secretaries of the two states from Delhi on Thursday.

1.SC refuses to pass fresh order to stop cockfights in Andhra Pradesh.The Supreme Court today refused to pass any fresh order to stop cockfights in Andhra Pradesh.A bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud declined to pass the order when it was submitted that the Andhra Pradesh High Court direction in this regard is not being followed.
2.RTA authorities crack the whip on private buses.Cracking the whip against private bus operators, who have been fleecing passengers by cashing in on the demand during this festive season, the Road Transport Authority (RTA) seized 14 private buses here on Friday.
3.City outskirts become safe haven for banned cockfights.Despite High Court ban, cockfights have been continuing unabated in the district. The traditional sports are being organised on the city outskirts as police turn a blind eye.
4.Union minister Suresh Prabhu adopts freedom fighter Alluri’s village.Union Minister of Railways and Rajya Sabha member from Andhra Pradesh, Suresh Prabhu has adopted Pandrangi village of Padmanabham  mandal for development, under the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana. The minister has asked Visakhapatnam collector Pravin Kumar to initiate the necessary measures towards achieving the goal.
5.Cock fights go on in AP despite High Court orders.It was yet another wintry day and the air in Komdavolu village, less than 3 km from Eluru, still carried with it a smoky odour from the early morning Bhogi bonfires lit on the main road. But, we had little time to enjoy the festive scene. It was already 10 a.m. and we had to rush to the village outskirts.
6.Historian Angara Surya Rao no more. Noted writer and historian Angara Surya Rao, who chronicled the history of Visakhapatnam, passed away at his house in the One Town area on Friday evening. He was 94. His wife had died a year ago.
