India’s largest state Uttar Pradesh went for the first phase of polling. The first phase of polling took place for the western part of Uttar Pradesh. A turnout of 64.2 per cent was recorded, 3 per cent better than that registered in 2012 state elections. Polling took place in 15 districts for 73 constituencies. The polling went peacefully. Aligarh has recorded the highest percentage of polling which stands at 55.8percent while Ghaziabad witnessed least polling with 49percent.

Overall 26,882 polling stations were set up by the election commission. The polling started of at slow pace in the morning while it took a rapid pace afternoon. Paramilitary forces were deployed at few problematic places that were recognized by the Election Commission. Many places saw the technical slag in the EVM’s with this polling started a bit late. EC has also kept a constant monitoring of the polling. For this it fixed 3888 digital video cameras for web live casting.

Coming to the prominent personalities who who contested in the first phase include Union Home Minister Mr. Rajnath’s son Pankaj Singh who was in the ring from Noida. Since it is the first polling in the state all parties took it very prestigiously.

 In the 2012 assembly elections the BJP had won 11 of the 73 seats that are voting today. The Bahujan Samaj Party and SP had won 24 seats each, Rashtriya Lok Dal had won nine and Congress five. Apart from the 24 seats it won in 2012, the BSP had finished second on over 30 seats.

Police have seized an hectic amount of Rs.19.56 crore and liquor that valued Rs.14 crore. They have caught drugs while transporting that amounts to Rs.96.93 crore
